The 11th African Elephant Fund steering committee meeting hosted by the government of Ghana

The 11th African Elephant Fund Steering Committee (AEFSC) meeting was held in Accra, Ghana, from the 18-21 February 2019 and hosted by the Government of Ghana with the objective of reviewing progress in the implementation of the African Elephant Action Plan, through the review of the operational and administrative mechanisms of the African Elephant Fund hosted by UN Environment. Countries act towards safer passage for migratory waterbirds

The 7th session of the Meeting of the Parties to the African-Eurasian Waterbird Agreement (AEWA) was held in Durban, South Africa, in December 2018. The meeting marked a milestone in the history of AEWA by adopting a new Strategic Plan and a Plan of Action for Africa, which will see all countries able to work together to ensure a future for waterbirds across a flyway that stretches from the very tip of Africa, across the Middle East to the High Arctic. The Plan of Action for Africa will present a renewed framework for responding to contemporary waterbird conservation issues in Africa. Read more...

Convention on Biological Diversity - investing in biodiversity for people and planet

The UN Biodiversity Conference was held from 13-29 November 2018, in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, under the theme “Investing in biodiversity for people and planet.” It was attended by approximately 3,800 participants representing parties, other governments, international and non-governmental organizations, indigenous peoples and local communities, academia, and the private sector. The Conference adopted a number of decisions on a series of strategic, administrative, financial, and ecosystem-related issues of relevance to the implementation of the Convention and its Protocols.
